Movie Reviews for Visually Impaired People
"Tumbleweeds," rated PG 13 and with a running time of one hour and forty-five minutes is a sweet movie about the love between a mother and her daughter.
Janet McTeer stars as Mary Jo, a free spirited woman who is constantly struggling with men. She's been married four times but finds herself fleeing another abusive relationship. Mary Jo and her daughter, Ava, played by Kimberly J. Brown, are on the road again for unknown destinations with the hope of finding a stable homelife. An old friend in Missouri turns out to appear like Mary Jo's next disaster, but the two women quickly decide to leave before even getting out of the car.
Ava's miserable with this kind of life and hopes for a good life by the beach. Mary Jo wants her daughter to be happy, so they drive to California to start a new life. Mary Jo meets another guy, gets a new job and ava's having fun in school. Things are good but they can't last. Right? Soon as usual, the pattern of deteriorating relationships and the fleeing scene rears its ugly head, but this time something different happens.
From the visually impaired point of view. This picture has lots of dialogue and only a few main characters with distinct voices. This was very good and made things relatively easy to follow through the whole movie. There was very little music to be distracting although there were a number of silent pauses that were confusing to me. Nothing much was happening during those moments, but I needed to check in with my sighted assistant to make sure I wasn't missing anything. There were many scenes with subtle visual things going on, some of which I missed and some I figured out. This was more of a nuisance than a devastating blow. There were two car scenes which would have been totally lost to me without descriptions.
This movie was good enough to enjoy and easy enough to follow. I'll give this one a 7.
