Maggie, a confident heart surgeon played by Meg Ryan, unexpectedly loses a patient on the operating table. She is quite shaken from the experience and begins to question the meaning of her life. Unbeknownst to her, Seth, an angel played by Nicholas Cage, was in the operating room during her crisis. He had come to escort the patient to the other side, but was caught by surprise when he saw Maggie. Although initially invisible to her, Seth eventually builds a very special relationship with Maggie.
From the visually impaired point of view, this is another toughie, folks. The film starts out with lots of quick scenes, almost all visual. Things calm down and get less chaotic, but the lack of consistent dialogue continued throughout the movie. There were only two main characters with very distinct voices. This helped. The sound track was great, a wonderful blend of angelic harmonies and hot, pulsing rhythm. There were excellent sound effects too, but all this good music interfered with my ability to follow the story. Sweet theme, interesting Hollywood romance, but a rough one to follow.
I'll give this one a 4. If you like stories about spirituality and life after death, well you'll probably like this one. But be sure to take a sharp sighted assistant.
