Woody Allen and Sharon Stone are the voices of Z, the dissatisfied worker ant innocently turned hero and Princess Bala, the compliant but unhappy heiress to her mother's throne.
Z meets a very special ant at a bar one night, then finds out that she was the Princess Bala in disguise. Determined to see her, he trades places with Weaver, his soldier buddy, for a chance to get close to the woman of his dreams. Unfortunately all the soldiers in his new section are ordered off to war to fight the evil termites. Bedazzled and confused hemanages to be the lone ant to survive the war and is heralded back as a hero. His chance comes to sweep the princess off her feet but things don't exactly work out like Z had hoped.
From the visually impaired point of view: This animated film about ants is as difficult as you would expect, with many scenes focused almost totally on the visual. According to my sighted assistant the producers did a good job with the special effects. Interestingly enough, I had to keep remembering that I was listening to the dialogue of ants with people's voices, not people. The dialogue was clear and the characters were relatively easy to identify, but the plot, although scripted to be atractive to adults was a bit too cute and a little too superficial. Anyway, the idea was creative but these movies are consistenly exhausting to the visually impaired.
I'll give this one a 3 and encourage you to save your movie money for another day.
