Jan Schlichtman, played by John Travolta, is a confident lawyer in a small firm who decides to take the case. Robert Duval is cast as Joseph Facher, an older, more experienced lawyer and a well respected professor at Harvard law school. He's one of the lawyers for the defense, a large corporation. As evidence is revealed, both lawyers struggle with the strategy involved in civil court. Is civil court just about money or is it a place where truth and justice prevail?
From the visually impaired point of view: This was a rather tough court movie. There's always lots of talking in court trials, and this one was no exception. But in spite of the dialogue this was quite difficult to follow at times. As usual the beginning had very few words and I immediately needed descriptions from my sighted assistant. Sad to say, I needed similar descriptions intermittently throughout the whole movie.
The dialogue was abundant in lots of parts but the voices of the men were often very hard to distinguish. There were quite a number of abrupt flashbacks, jumping back and forth from one scene to the next and back again. This was also very tough. The content was interesting and the story line was still relatively easy to follow, so I'll give this one a 6, but it is definitely one of those easy, "lay back and relax" kind of trial movies.
