BLINDSPOTS:
Movie Reviews for Visually Impaired People

"The Deep End Of The Ocean," rated Pg 13, is a compelling movie about a kidnapped boy and the effects of that kidnapping on the lives of innocent people.

Michelle Pfeiffer stars as Beth, a happily married mother of three children. She meets a friend at a crowded airport but in the process her three-year-old disappears. Candy, Whoopi Goldberg, is the confident police officer assigned to the case, but after hours of unsuccessfully searching for the child is humbled to consoling Beth. Bethıs anguish and feelings of guilt are overwhelming. Years go by and Beth slowly falls into a numbed out, pretentious existence. Her strong and dutiful husband, Pat, played by Treat Williams, is loyal to Beth but frustrated with her inability to move on in her life.

Nine years after her son's disappearance, Beth accidently is reunited with her son. The results however are very confusing and upsetting to all concerned.

From the visually impaired point of view. This movie had its ups and downs. The story line stayed consistent and was easy to follow. There was a good amount of dialogue in most of the scenes and the main characters had voices which were easily discerned. The music was subtle and never interfered with dialogue. These were all good qualities, however there were many abrupt shifts of scenes in the beginning with no warning. This was obviously difficult, spots that would have been very confusing without a signed assistant. There were some scenes with no dialogue at all, but you knew what was going on. These weren't so bad. However there were other silent scenes that needed lots of descriptions for me to stay abreast of what was taking place.

This movie was a bit too Hollywood at times but had an intelligent, challenging theme with some unexpected turns. I liked this picture, but can only give it a 6. Itıs still definitely worth checking out.
