Kevin Lomax, played by Keanu Reeves, is a top-notch lawyer in Gainesville who is happily married. After winning an almost impossible case, he is invited to New York to work for a very powerful law firm, headed by John Milton, superbly played by Al Pacino. Lomax and his wife are overwhelmed with the generosity of the firm, but all is not what it appears to be.
This film can be seen as a challenge to all lawyers. Will you lose yourself to the lure of power and recognition or will you maintain integrity and humility and always do the right thing?
From the visually impaired point of view, this movie starts out with lots of dialogue as a court case comes to a dramatic close. I did not ask my sighted assistant for any information in the first fifteen minutes--a very pleasant beginning. Throughout the movie there was lots of dialogue, with only a few main characters to follow. Another plus. There were some interesting sound effects, but they never really interfered much with the dialogue. There were a few scenes which needed descriptions, especially when the faces and bodies changed back and forth in a surreal way. My assistant briefly described a few of the special visual effects, but I obviously missed lots of the bizarre sights on the screen.
This is a weird movie, but I'll give it a 7 and encourage you to check it out. It was very intriguing and quite entertaining.
