Alex Whitman, played by Perry, is a focused New York businessman, temporarily working in Las Vegas. He meets Isabel Fuentes, portrayed by Hayek, as they wait in line to use a bathroom. They end up spending the night together, and three months later she appears on the scene again to inform him that she is pregnant. A quick marriage ensues, although they're not really sure who they are marrying. The real fun begins when they discover that their two worlds are so very different.
There are some very funny scenes in this movie, mostly focused around Alex meeting and spending time with Isabel's Mexican family.
Is this movie, along with Jerry Maguire, pointing out a growing trend? They both depict a narrow-minded, rigid businessman's evolution towards a meaningful, loving human relationship with a rewarding family life.
From the visually impaired point of view, this movie had lots of dialogue that was easy to follow, with only a few major characters, all who had distinct and different voices. The pace was reasonable, with very few abrupt scene changes and no confusing flashbacks. This was good. However, there were at least three long scenes with just music, one of which would have been extremely confusing without a sighted assistant. I received a running description from my sighted friend when the lead character went from the East coast to Mexico and back to Las Vegas on a search for his beloved. In addition, there were a couple of scenes where the dialogue was in Spanish. Unless you are familiar with the Spanish language, these scenes will be completely confusing to you. I would have been clueless without my friend reading the sub-titles to me. I'll only give this movie a 6 but it's pretty easy to follow with a sighted assistant. Check it out. It's a good one.
