After spending a summer at the beach, Danny, Travolta, is stunned to see his summer sweetheart, Australian-born Sandy, portrayed by John, at his local high school. Danny struggles with maintaining his tough-guy image while having strong feelings for Sandy, who knows him as a sweet and tender guy. Sandy also struggles with trying to be the kind of girl that she thinks Danny wants.
From the visually impaired point of view, this movie is a musical and most musicals seem to be difficult for visually impaired people. The first ten minutes are silent as the credits scroll by. The scene is on the beach and it's with the two stars bidding each other farewell after a summer in love. The story line is simple and not really hard to follow, which was good. However there are many scenes which are choreographed with music and dance. I loved the music but constantly needed descriptions of events that took place during the songs. There was a song and dance number about Danny's car "Grease Lightning," a car race, a segment when Danny tries out for sports, a long dance contest, and other smaller scenes, all of which were very difficult to follow.
I'll only give this movie a 4 but if you like good music and movies that can trigger nostalgic feelings, well you just might like this one.
