Will Hunting, portrayed by Matt Damon, is a tough, rebellious orphan who is working at MIT mopping floors. He secretly completes an extremely difficult math problem left on a blackboard by one of the professors. After unsuccessful attempts to find the student who answered the problem, the professor accidentally catches Will answering yet another unsolved math question. The professor is fascinated by Will's gift and wants to help him straighten out his life. Failed attempts at therapy lead Will to Shawn, played by Robin Williams, an old friend of the professor's. The growing relationship between Shawn as therapist and Will as client is stimulating, provocative and deeply moving. This movie exposes the power of good therapy and the difficulties with which working class men struggle.
From the visually impaired point of view, this movie was a delight for me since I love stories about the counseling world, however, I think everyone will follow this one easily. There was lots of dialogue, only a few main characters and not too many abrupt scene changes. My sighted assistant needed to give me descriptions of a fight scene that took place in slow motion, a brief airport scene, a couple of bar scenes along with comments about a few other scenes here and there. There was no overwhelming music, no flashbacks and everything else seemed to flow reasonably well.
I'll give this one a seven and encourage you strongly to check it out. This one has my vote for best picture of the year.
