Jeff Bridges plays a slovenly character named Dude. He is accidently mistaken by bad guys for a billionaire with the same last name--Lebowski. His ex-Vietnam Vet buddy, Walter, portrayed by John Goodman, continually tries to help Dude out of jam after jam caused by the mistaken identity, but his efforts only make things worse. Bridges and Goodman play off each other very well in this absurd comedy which should make you laugh. No profound stuff in this movie, just pure entertainment.
From the visually impaired point of view: This flick starts and ends with easy to follow narratives. It's what happens in the middle that makes this one a bit tough to handle. This picture had lots of good music, only two main characters with distinct voices and a good amount of dialogue. However there were many scenes with just music and no dialogue. A few scenes were violent and chaotic. I asked my sighted assistant for descriptions quite a few times in this movie. There were dream scenes and drug induced fantasies, along with driving scenes, all which were mostly without dialogue.
I'll give this movie a 5 but, in spite of the difficulties and struggles that you'll undoubtedly go through, I'll still encourage you die hard comedy lovers to check it out.
