BLINDSPOTS:
Movie Reviews for Visually Impaired People
"For The Love Of The Game," rated PG 13 and with a running time of two hours and twenty minutes skillfully blends romance and relationship struggles with the glory of major league baseball.
Kevin Costner stars as Billy Chapel, a certain Hall of Fame pitcher who is now nearing the end of his illustrious nineteen year career. He finds himself at a crossroads in his life when two days before the end of the baseball season he discovers that his team has been sold and his on and off again girl friend has decided to move to London. Kelly Preston stars as Jane, a journalist and deeply caring single mother of a teenage girl. She loves Billy but can no longer allow herself to put up with such a confusing relationship. Revelations, however, come for both Billy and Jane in very different environments with interesting results.
From the visually impaired point of view. The first five minutes of this movie was all visuals, immediately calling for a sighted assistant to give descriptions. Once dialogue got started though, the picture became much more enjoyable. The movie focused almost exclusively on the two stars. I believe at least one of the two were in each scene. This was good. Their voices were distinct and the supportive characters were easy to discern as well. There was continuous subtle background music through most of this flick, but it only added to the drama. This was also good. There were quite a few flashbacks, sometimes when Billy was young, sometimes illuminating his five year relationship with Jane. This got a little confusing at times, but it was not devastating. Throughout the last half of the movie Billy is on the pitcher's mound, talking to himself, strategizing how to pitch to each batter that he has to face. This could be seen as difficult by some, but baseball fans surely will understand and enjoy these snippets.
All in all I liked this movie and think it deserves a 7. If you like romances you'll like this one. If you like baseball, well then you'll love this movie!
