BLINDSPOTS:
Movie Reviews for Visually Impaired People

Diane Keaton and Meryl Streep star in "Marvin's Room," a poignant, but sometimes boring movie about the power of unselfish giving. Leonardo Di Caprio and Robert De Niro add excellent supporting roles in this "PG-13" flick that runs about one hour and forty minutes.

Lee, a controlling, selfish single mother, played by Streep, and Bessie, her unselfish, giving sister, are reunited after many years. Bessie is diagnosed with leukemia and Lee drives down with her two sons in an attempt to find a bone marrow donor for her ailing sister. Their reunion turns out to be quite challenging.

I was a little disappointed with this picture, but maybe that's because I've been conditioned to expect powerful, dynamic Hollywood endings. This one ended in a sweet, but very quiet way.

From the visually impaired point of view, this is one of those movies that starts out rather chaotic, but calms down pretty quickly. There were seven characters, all with unique voices and very different personalities. That was good, making things pretty easy to follow. There was hardly any music that interfered with the dialogue, which ran pretty consistent throughout. There were lots of little, visual subtleties that I knew I was missing, along with a couple of scenes that needed running descriptions from my sighted assistant, but they were not too overwhelming to handle. I'll give this movie is a 7.
