Max Kane is way too big for his age and Freak, his new neighbor, is crippled with some weird disease. They strike up a friendship and learn to support each other while meeting the challenges that life throws at them. Freak lends Max his sharp intelligence, Max lends Freak his legs and strong body. Together they outwit gang members, fascinate teachers, and with a little luck, handle life threatening situations.
From the visually impaired point of view: This movie has a narrative through the whole movie which obviously makes it easier to follow. The two main characters had clear voices that were quite different and the minor characters were relatively easy to make out most of the time. The music was enhancing without interfering with any dialogue. These were all good things yet the movie had enough difficult spots to warrant only a 6. There were a number of scenes with no dialgoue, a couple of flashbacks with no sound clues and a number of fantasy flashes of knights on horses from King Arthur days. The physical appearances of the two boys and the way they did things together was an important part of the movie. My imagination picturing the boys only went so far. Lately the movies have been tough.
Although I've only rated this one a 6, it's still completely worth going to see. I encourage everyone to check this one out.
I'll give this one a 3 and encourage you to save your movie money for another day.
