"Now and Then," rated PG 13, with a running time of just under two hours, is a heart warming and soul searching movie about four women, who at the age of twelve, made a life-long pact to be there for each other in times of need. One of the women is going to have a baby and they all meet back in Indiana, home of the prospective mom and the four's old stomping ground.
Most of the movie takes place back in the sixties when the
girls were twelve and full of innocence, exuding a
lightheartedness, and a desire for adventure.
I laughed and cried from scene to scene as the girls went from
a sheer enjoyment of life in their foursome, to the sweet and
tender way they handled each other's struggles.
From the blind point of view, this movie was not too hard to
follow at all. The music was used well, adding a vibrancy to the
settings but not interfering with my ability to hear the dialogue.
The girl's voices were distinct enough to differentiate and they
used each other's names more than most movies. There were a few
scenes when a sighted assistant was definitely necessary, however
I asked for descriptions only on occasion. You don't need sight to
understand what caring connections, commitment and friendship are all about. I give "Now and Then" a solid 8. This movie's a winner
and quite friendly for people without sight. Check it out.
