BLINDSPOTS:
Movie Reviews for Visually Impaired People

"Rounders," rated R and with a running time of a little more than two hours, is a movie that exposes the desperate world of gambling. In spite of showing the destructive attitudes and behaviors in the roller coaster lives of gamblers, Hollywood has once again managed to glorify the lifestyle, setting back the good work of Gambler's Anonymous ten years.

Mike McDermott, played by Matt Damon, is a law student by day and by night he is a cocky, well respected poker player. Things go bad for him when he loses all his savings in one card game. But then all hell breaks loose for him when he hooks up with Worm, Edward Norton, an old buddy and fellow card shark. Worm's in trouble and everything he does seems to pull Mike deeper into the hole with him.

From the visually impaired point of view, this movie had easy-to-follow dialogue throughout, an enjoyable breath of fresh air for visually impaired folks. There were only two main characters with distinct voices and a few more minor characters with very different personalitites. There was very little music, certainly nothinhg to cause any distraction. The scenes jumped around a little, but no big deal if you go with a sighted assistant. If you're not informed about the subleties in being a card shark, well, you certainly will be by the end of this flick. Occasionly, however, the sophisticated gambling dialogue might be challenging to understand.

I'll give this movie an 8. If you love gambling or cards, this story will be quite entertaining.
