Evan Adams and Adam Beach star as Thomas and Victor, two very different young adult men. Thomas, who lost both his parents in a fire when he was a baby, is always smiling, friendly and loves to tell stories while Victor is quiet, stoic, withdrawn and mistrusting. Victor reluctantly agrees to allow Thomas to join him on a journey to Arizona to claim some possessions and the body of his recently deceased father. Victor's father left his family and the reservation years ago leaving Victor hurt, confused and angry. Unbeknownst to Victor, the trip turns out to be a healing journey.
From the visually impaired point of view, this movie was quite tricky to rate. On the one hand there were many periods of relaxed enjoyment listening to the stories Thomas would tell as well as plentiful periods of dialogue between Thomas and Victor. On the other hand there were many flashbacks of not just different scenes, but different periods in the boys' past. This was very confusing and would have been totally impossible without lots of help from my sighted assistant.
The movie moved rather slowly and was relatively easy to stay connected to, in spite of the difficult scenes. The music and sound effects were wonderful and done with good taste. This one's tough to rate, but I'll give it a 6 due to the number of times I needed to ask for assistance.
