BLINDSPOTS:
Movie Reviews for Visually Impaired People

"Twilight," rated R and with a running time of a little more than an hour and a half is a ho-hum movie with a star-studded cast. Paul Newman, Susan Sarandon, Gene Hackman and James Garner make up the great cast and they all come through with good performances. However, it's like the clock with all the right pieces, but no tick.

Harry Ross, Newman, is an aging ex-private detective who innocently gets involved with a murder when he attempts to deliver a package for his friend, Jack, played by Hackman. Jack and Katherine, Sarandon, are aging movie stars with a skeleton from the past that keeps haunting them. Harry's always been attracted to Katherine and Jack is diagnosed with cancer, which only adds to the complexity of the story.

From the visually impaired point of view: This movie will attract aging movie-goers with its old-time feel. The music reminded me of old Humphrey Bogart movies and many of the lines seemed to be drawn from that era. The picture starts out with lots of visuals in Mexico, then jumps to a scene that takes place two years later. I needed a steady stream of descriptions for the first fifteen minutes. Things did get better although it felt like I was constantly asking my sighted assistant. "What's happening now?"

There were four main characters with distinct voices. Once their roles were established they were easy to follow. There were a number of other characters which proved confusing at times, but not intolerable. Gunshots rang out in a few scenes and that's always hard for visually impaired people. Seems like we always have to ask, "Who shot who?"

The movie moved rather slowly and because of this I'll give it a 6.
