BLINDSPOTS:
Movie Reviews for Visually Impaired People

"Ulee's Gold," rated "R" and with a running time of a little less than two hours, is a movie about a quiet, hard working Vietnam vet and his devotion to his troubled family.

Ulee Jackson, played by Peter Fonda, is a bee keeper who is living with and taking care of his two grandchildren. His son, Jimmy, is in jail for theft and Helen, the kids' mom, is strung out on drugs somewhere in Orlando. Ulee grudgingly accepts a request from his son to bring Helen back home and help her out. Things go from bad to worse when two crazy toughs, Jimmy's old crime partners, terrorize Ulee and his family for some missing money from the crime.

From the visually impaired point of view, here again we have a movie that starts out with about five minutes or so with absolutely no dialogue. So, what else is new? The scene changes are not chaotic or abrupt in any way, and they progress slowly, which makes it a whole lot easier to follow. The characters all had distinct voices and there was very little background music to be distracting. The segments with dialogue were pretty easy to follow throughout the movie, however, there were too many long silent scenes for me to give this movie more than a 5. I still liked it and would encourage you to check it out, but only with a good sighted assistant.
