BLINDSPOTS:
Movie Reviews for Visually Impaired People

Wonder Boys, rated "R" and with a running time of about two hours is an intelligent but strange movie about the life of a struggling university professor.

Michael Douglas stars as Professor Grady Tripp, an English teacher who is having a hard time. His wife has just left him, his girl friend has just informed him that she is pregnant and his literary agent is in town to pressure him about his next book. Things seem to only get worse for the professor when one of his students, James Lear, portrayed by Tobey Maguire, shoots and accidently kills the chancellor's dog while the dog was chomping on the poor Professor.

We're not quite sure what this movie is all about, but it's light, interesting and very enjoyable. Maybe the purpose of this movie is to expose the chaos and insanity of the scholastic world. I don't know. Things can't be that crazy on our campuses. Right?

From the visually impaired point of view. This was a pretty easy picture to follow. It began with a little narrative which continued off and on throughout. This was very good and quite informative. Once again let me encourage you to listen to the narrative and don't worry about getting descriptions about what is happening on the screen at that moment. The narrative will assist you better than your sighted assistant during those times. If you try to get both, well, you might not get either.

There's lots of dialogue in this movie and the main characters are pretty easy to understand. There are subtleties that I missed on occasion. Some funny, quick visual flashes where the audience laughed and I didn't know why. They are minor though. There also two driving scenes which will need descriptions. They are chaotic but funny. The sound track is great and will probably be worth the admission price by itself. I'll give this one an 8 and encourage you to check it out.
