BLINDSPOTS:
Movie Reviews for Visually Impaired People

"Why Do Fools Fall In Love," rated R and with a running time of two hours, takes an interesting angle in recalling the life of Frankie Lyman, a teenage rock and roll star in the fifties.

Years after the death of Frankie Lyman, three women show up and claim that they are deserving beneficiaries. Over the years, Frankie's songs became famous and the royalties accumulated. All three women claim to be Frankie's widow. In court, all three get a chance to tell their stories. The outcome then rests on the decision of the judge ... or does it?

From the visually impaired point of view, this was an enjoyable movie that was not too difficult to follow. The music was great, up tempo do-wop stuff from the fifties. There was lots of dialogue throughout the picture, during flashbacks and in court. There were only four main characters to focus on most of the time and this too was good.

The movie opend with written text on the screen. Here a sighted assistant is crucial. There were lots of flashbacks but they were pretty obvious to me and not too difficult to follow. There were a few concert scenes with singing and dancing. I received some assistance to find out exactly what was going on, but it was not super important. Otherwise there was one scene when Frankie was being chased and eventually got beaten up. This was fast and chaotic and one where I did need help.

I'll give this movie a 6 and encourage you to check it out. It's light, it's got sad moments as well and it's informative about the black culture, the fifties and rock and roll.
